How to plan a camper van trip?

Planning a camper van trip can feel a bit overwhelming at first—there's so much to figure out! But don’t worry, keeping a few simple tips in mind will make the whole process a lot easier.

Vanlife is all about freedom - you already know that! But to really enjoy it without any hassles, a little prep goes a long way. Start by figuring out where you want to go - are you heading to the sea, the mountains, a river or a lake? Once you’ve got your destination and vibe sorted, make a list of the essentials you’ll need for the trip. Knowing where you're going makes packing so much easier!

If you’re planning a longer trip (more than two weeks), it’s a good idea to figure out your budget. Think about things like fuel, tolls, parking, shopping, camping fees (even if you’re into wild camping, it’s nice to hit a campsite now and then to chill and meet other travelers), and any paid attractions you want to check out. Sure, your campervan comes with a full kitchen, and you’ll use it a lot, but trust me—you’ll definitely want to stop for a tasty lunch or dinner at a local pub while cruising through small towns. You don’t need to plan every detail, but it’s smart to have a rough idea of how much you’re okay spending on your campervan adventure.

Before heading abroad, make sure you check out the local regulations. Knowing the rules in the country you’re traveling through can save you from unnecessary fines—and headaches!

Once you’ve chosen your destination, made your packing list, planned your budget, and brushed up on the rules, you’re pretty much ready to roll. All that’s left is getting into the right mindset for your van life adventure.

Take it easy. Seriously, slow down. When you’re traveling in a campervan, there’s no need to rush - it’s almost against the whole spirit of it! Plus, speeding not only makes the ride less enjoyable (let’s be honest, it’s way harder to drive a camper at 130 km/h than at a chill 90 or 100), but it also guzzles more fuel.

By rushing from one spot to another, you miss out on the magic of the journey. Some of the best moments come from unexpected stops—meeting locals, getting tips on hidden gems, or just soaking in the vibe of a place. In a hurry, those opportunities will fly right past you. Trust me, it’s not worth it. Take your time, and let the adventure unfold naturally!
